Graduate Hooding Ceremonies

Friday, June 7, various times and on-campus locations

Graduate faculty members and school deans will hold individual school/program hooding ceremonies prior to the Graduate Commencement ceremony at various on-campus locations. Faculty, please dress in academic regalia.

Ivy Cutting

Friday, June 7, 10–11 a.m., Tiffany Loop (line up by 9:45  a.m.)

Faculty members, please meet between Moyer Hall and Peterson Hall at 9:30 a.m. to line up for the processional. Please dress in academic regalia. All faculty are expected to participate.

Note: This is an outdoor ceremony. If rain is in the forecast, please plan accordingly. A rain plan will be put into place and communicated to participants as we get closer to the event.

Graduate Commencement Ceremony

Friday, June 7, 2–3:30 p.m., Tiffany Loop (arrive by 1:30 to be lined up by 1:45 p.m.)

Graduate faculty members, please meet between Moyer Hall and Peterson Hall, at 1:30 p.m., to line up for the processional. Those faculty who will be hooding doctoral students in the ceremony will line up at the front of the faculty processional. Graduate faculty will then process into Tiffany Loop and will be seated by faculty marshals up at the front of the seating area.

Note: This is an outdoor ceremony. If rain is in the forecast, please plan accordingly. A rain plan will be put into place and communicated to participants as we get closer to the event.

All faculty are expected to attend either this ceremony or the Undergraduate Commencement ceremony. If you are unable to attend any of the required events, you must receive written permission from your dean to be absent.

Undergraduate Commencement

Saturday, June 8, 10:30a.m.–1 p.m., T-Mobile Park (arrive by 9 a.m.), 1250 1st Ave S., Seattle, WA 98134

  • Please arrive no later than 9 a.m. to check in with an SPU staff member.
  • Faculty marshals, under direction of Presiding Marshal Derek Wood, will assist with the processional lineup.
  • Consider carpooling to T-Mobile Park. Check directions and parking page, for more information. SPU has secured the Mariners’ parking garage on Edgar Martinez Way, just south of the ballpark for parking at no cost to you.

All faculty are expected to attend either this ceremony or the Graduate Commencement ceremony. If you are unable to attend any of the required events, you must receive written permission from your dean to be absent.

Regalia

To Rent Regalia

We are pleased to announce that Jostens Regalia has created an easy, online system for any faculty wishing to rent regalia. Please submit your order through the web portal below by April 22

Instructions:

  1. Visit Jostens Regalia
  2. Under “Select a Collection,” chooseFaculty Rentals Ship to Bookstore”
  3. Indicate your height, weight, and advanced degree (master’s or doctorate), and the institution from which you received your degree. If you have a doctorate, please indicate whehter you would like a cap or a tam.

Rentals will ship only to the bookstore, which means you must pick them up there during regular business hours. They cannot ship to your home from the store, nor will we be able to bring non-picked-up regalia to Commencement. 

We have arranged to collect your rented regalia after Undergraduate Commencement and return them for you, if desired. Alternatively, you may regurn your rented regalia directly to the Bookstore yourself, if you so choose.

To Purchase Regalia

Please visit Grad Fest on Friday, April 12, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. at Gwinn Commons. Our Josten's representative will be there and can give you custom purchasing options, take your measurements, etc. If you cannot attend Grad Fest, but still want to purchase regalia, please email our Jostens representative, James Villalobos, at james.villalobos@jostens.com.
